| | Check out the Library!June 18, 2009 - Amy PhelpsWhen I was younger, I spent every summer at the library, getting new books at least once a week. It seems I continue to do so. The libraries in our area have many great programs over the summer to take young children to. Special library programs revolve around a central theme. A story, craft, and snack are often included. Programs generally need advance registration, so call your local library for more details. This is also time for summer reading programs at the library in which kids can fill out logs of the books they read over the summer and turn them in for special prizes, events, etc. (check with your local library for their specific program details.) Any excuse to get your kids reading is a good excuse! I took my kids to a "Fancy Nancy" party at the Washington County Public Library. Kids dressed up in their fanciest clothes to hear two stories from their favorite series, color crowns to wear, and make fancy beaded bracelets and necklaces. And of course, have fancy pink cookies and lemonade to go with it. I'm posting the links for local libraries' program schedules below. The Washington County Public Library page has links to each branch's programs. If you're looking for something to do with your kids over the summer that's free, fun, and fosters a love of reading, look no further!
